How to Play 2048

Use arrow keys (or swipe on mobile) to slide all tiles on the board. When two tiles with the same number collide, they merge into one — doubling the value. After each move, a new tile (2 or 4) appears on the board.

About 2048

2048 was created by Gabriele Cirulli in March 2014 as a weekend project and released as open source. It quickly went viral and has been played billions of times worldwide. The goal is simple: slide numbered tiles to merge them and reach the 2048 tile.

Can I keep playing after reaching 2048?

Yes! After you reach 2048 the game lets you continue to beat your high score.

What is the highest possible tile?

Theoretically 131072 (2¹⁷), though reaching it requires near-perfect play.
